  • 1. Do I need temporary residence in the Republic of Serbia?

    If you may enter the Republic of Serbia without a visa and you want to stay more than 90 days as of the date of entry into our state, i.e. more than the period prescribed by the bilateral agreement between the Republic of Serbia and your state, you may submit electronic request for temporary residence approval.

  • 2. How can I exercise the right to temporary residence if I need a visa to enter the Republic of Serbia?

    If you need a visa to enter the Republic of Serbia, you may submit electronic request for temporary residence if you have been issued D visa (long-stay visa) by diplomatic or consular mission of the Republic of Serbia abroad on any of bases on which temporary residence in the Republic of Serbia may be approved.

  • 3. Which foreign nationals do not need to submit the request for temporary residence approval?

    Foreigners who have submit the request for asylum or who have been approved asylum or temporary protection in the Republic of Serbia

    who under international law enjoy privileges and immunities in the part excluded by these privileges and immunities (diplomats, consular officers and persons associated with this category of persons)

    Citizens of the Republic of Serbia who have dual citizenship

  • 4. Which documents do I need in order to submit electronic request for approval or extension of temporary residence?

    Valid personal or official passport

    Registered address of residence, residence address, i.e. address of intended residence in the Republic of Serbia

    Evidence of health insurance for the period of planned residence in the Republic of Serbia.

    Evidence of means subsistence for the period of planned residence in the Republic of Serbia.

    Evidence on justification of the request for temporary residence approval in accordance with the basis of temporary residence on which the request is submitted

  • 5. If I am approved temporary residence in the Republic of Serbia, may I change the basis of residence?

    A foreigner whose temporary residence has been approved on some of legally prescribed bases must reside in the Republic of Serbia in accordance with the basis for which his/her residence has been approved. If the circumstances under which a foreigner has been approved temporary residence subsequently change, a foreigner is obliged to notify the competent authority that approved his/her temporary residence.

  • 6. For what period of time may I be approved temporary residence in the Republic of Serbia?

    Temporary residence may be approved for up to one year and may be extended for the same period of validity, depending on the basis of residence and the existence of reasons due to which temporary residence is approved.

    Validity period of travel document must be at least three months longer than the period for which temporary residence is approved.

  • 7. Which document is issued by the Republic of Serbia when temporary residence is approved to the foreigner?

    Evidence that a foreigner has been approved temporary residence in the Republic of Serbia is a sticker of approved temporary residence, light blue in which the foreigner’s personal data are entered, validity period of approved temporary residence and other data on the foreigner who has been approved temporary residence.

    The sticker of approved temporary residence is imprinted in the first blank page of the foreigner’s travel document, and travel document in which the sticker of approved temporary residence is imprinted must be taken over by the foreigner in person at the competent authority.

  • 8. Who from abroad may electronically submit the request for approval or extension of temporary residence?

    A foreigner who holds travel document of the state with which the Republic of Serbia has visa-free regime and who does not need a long-stay visa (D visa) to submit the request for temporary residence approval.

    A foreigner who holds travel document of the state with which the Republic of Serbia is in visa regime, provided that he/she has obtained necessary long-stay visa (D visa) prior to the date of submission of the request for approval or extension of temporary residence.

    A foreigner who in his/her travel document has a sticker of approved temporary residence issued by the competent authority in the Republic of Serbia. Electronic request for extension of temporary residence in the Republic of Serbia may be submitted no earlier than three months, and no later than 30 days prior to expiry of approved temporary residence.

    A foreigner who in his/her travel document has a sticker of temporary residence issued by the competent authority in the Republic of Serbia, and whose temporary residence expires in less than 30 days, may electronically submit an untimely request for extension of temporary residence from abroad. In this respect, before taking over the sticker of approved temporary residence, a foreigner will be prosecuted for misdemeanor.

    A foreigner who in his/her travel document has a sticker of approved temporary residence issued by the competent authority in the Republic of Serbia, and whose temporary residence has expired, may submit from abroad the request for temporary residence approval, exclusively in accordance with the fact whether he/she is a citizen of the state with which the Republic of Serbia has a visa-free or visa regime (item 1 or item 2).

  • 9. May I submit the request for temporary residence approval if I have been previously approved temporary residence, but I need visa to enter the Republic of Serbia?

    If a foreigner has the citizenship of the state with which the Republic of Serbia is in visa regime, and in travel document has a sticker of approved temporary residence in the republic of Serbia and such approved temporary residence expires before returning to the Republic of Serbia, a foreigner may not be approved entry into the Republic of Serbia on the basis of submitted request for extension of temporary residence, but it is necessary to obtain a new long-stay visa, D visa with which he/she will enter the Republic of Serbia. After entering the Republic of Serbia with D visa (long-stay visa), the request for temporary residence approval may be submitted.

  • 10. Does the entry into the Republic of Serbia depend on the outcome of the request for temporary residence approval that I submitted electronically?

    The submitted request for temporary residence approval as well as notification of the competent authority that the request has been resolved is neither a basis nor a guarantee that the foreigner will be approved to enter the Republic of Serbia if during the border control of the foreigner’s entry it is determined that there are legally prescribed obstacles due to which the foreigner is denied entry into the Republic of Serbia.

  • 11. If I have multiple citizenship, may I enter the Republic of Serbia with a travel document of the state of my choice?

    A foreigner who has multiple citizenship is deemed a citizen of the state that issued him/her travel document with which he/she entered the Republic of Serbia, i.e. with which he/she submitted from abroad the request for temporary residence approval.

  • 12. Who submits the request for temporary residence approval for minors and persons without legal and procedural capacity?

    For children, minor foreigners and persons without legal and procedural capacity, the request for approval/extension of temporary residence may be submitted by legal or authorized representatives of a child /a minor (parents, adoptive parents, custodial parents, foster parents and other persons who have authority to represent by law).

  • 13. May I electronically submit the request for approval or extension of temporary residence from the Republic of Serbia?

    A foreigner who holds travel document of the state with which the Republic of Serbia has visa-free regime electronically submits the request for approval or extension of temporary residence during his/her legal residence in the Republic of Serbia.

    A foreigner who holds travel document of the state with which the Republic of Serbia is in visa regime, provided that he/she entered the Republic of Serbia with long-stay visa (D visa), electronically submits the request for temporary residence approval during the validity of long-stay visa.

    A foreigner who in his/her travel document has a sticker of approved temporary residence issued by the competent authority in the Republic of Serbia. Electronic request for extension of temporary residence in the Republic of Serbia may be submitted no earlier than three months, and no later than 30 days prior to expiry of approved temporary residence.

    A foreigner who in his/her travel document has a sticker of temporary residence issued by the competent authority in the Republic of Serbia, and whose temporary residence expires in less than 30 days, may electronically submit an untimely request for extension of temporary residence from abroad.
